Crete Book By Marina Vernicos
I would like to thank the people of the Prefecture of Crete who entrusted me to showcase the uncontested beauty of the Cretan landscape through my photography. While my personal view is influenced by my Cretan origin, it’s the reality that places Crete at the top of natural beauty and history rankings. As Nikos Kazantzakis said: “Whoever sets foot on this island senses a mysterious force branching warmly and beneficently through his veins, and his soul begin to grow.” Crete, a mysterious and generous island, encapsulates the essence of Greece, the Greek soul itself. It is charming, seductive, captivating of all feelings.
Crete has triggered my photographic creativity, strongly activated my senses, and led me to capture through my lens the beauty and the vastness of the landscape and those places where the Divine and the Eternal prevail, within the human limits. Photographing during the daytime or early in the afternoon as well as when the midday sun was bathing the landscape in light, I tried to focus my attention on the value of the moment and the feeling of life -always in pursuit of a result that is equivalent to this unique challenge.
I would like to thank Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis, the Governor of the Prefecture of Crete, Mrs. Eva Simaiaki who motivated and supported me, as well as all those who entrusted me to undertake this challenging project.
